What the F*ont
Let’s talk fonts.
There are so many freaking fonts to choose from how the heck do you find the right one for you? The struggle is real. I myself struggle all the time with finding the perfect pairing or just 1 font for that matter. My hope is that the info in this email helps to narrow down all those pesky choices and streamline your way to the perfect match for your Brand. I've broken it down into 2 steps.
Step 1) Choose a style
There are lots of styles to choose from. The right one for you all comes down to what you want to convey to your viewers. Let me introduce you to the 4 S's.
Each one of these styles have infinite variations to them, not to mention the Brush styles, Hand written, Decorative, honestly it's nuts how many options there are. But here's where it gets fun, when you choose the style you want as your BFF, all those other styles you get to play with to find the perfect accessory.
Step 2) Mixing styles
Like fine wine, there are certain pairing that make it shine! The best thing about a Sans Serif is that it's so awesome it can be paired with just about anything and it'll be spectacular!
Serifs are picky, they like to stand alone when they can so be careful what you put with it. Whatever you choose needs to be able to stand up to the bully that a Serif can be.
Slabs are finicky. They are not super confident and often are unsure where they fit in. They don't know how splendid they can be when paired with the right accessory. Having a rockin' accent font will bring out the Slabs confidence however and it'll SHINE.
Now, the Script. Both delicate and bold. It can sweep in and steal the show or hang back and be a soft accent. The most diverse in the series, it can be a challenge to know where best to implement this beauty. But most of all, the Script likes to have FUN! It's a great way to add some playful elements in the form of a brush script.
As a whole, once you've chosen your main Font, stick to that! It can be super easy to get swayed by all those other fonts, but then you're right back where you started overwhelmed and feeling some major ughhhhs. So, skip those and stay with that 1 main font. Make it your BFF. Have fun and play around with the other styles for accents.
I hope this in some way helped to reduce the stress of choosing the right font for your brand. As a rule I like to keep my fonts to a minimum of 3 styles. This streamlines all my branding across all platforms both print, web and social media. Ensuring that everything stays consistent.
